Strut your stuff

During finals week, my procrastination-obsession quickly became Texts From Last Night. I mean seriously, how can you not become an instant addict?? Some of the texts on there are pee-your-pants hilarious. Anyway, one of the most recurrent themes throughout TFLN's posts is the ever-infamous "walk of shame."

Yet in the spirit of our blog, what exactly is so shameful about the morning following an evening of sexual empowerment? Is there some unspoken switch that flips in the early morning hours that transforms the previous night's conquest into something disgraceful? (Exhibit A: (630) Just saw two girls doing a walk of shame together. Slut bonding at it's best.) Um, excuse me? Slut bonding???

Furthermore, how often do you hear of a man's morning-after departure as an embarrassing escape? Rarely. (Exhibit B: (571) I think I just witnessed the elusive male walk of shame).

Just a little food for thought...

Love,
La Femme Nikita

  1. I wonder if the text about "slut bonding" was sent by a man or woman. As a man, that's a little strange to say, because he's probably enjoyed women on a similarly "slutty" basis himself. As a woman, I wonder if they're using slut as a positive term, as in Lady Lola's usage. Either way, c'mon people!

  2. My ex-girlfriend would regularly refuse to stay at my uMass dorm following parties, citing the 'walk of shame' as the reason. She was worried girls would judge her.

I used to argue jokingly that the girls would actually just be jealous of her, since she 'got some' and they didn't.

    She never bought it.

  3. I once did a walk of shame in a Halloween costume. Seriously.

I think the reason walks of shame are so awkward, and perhaps shameful, is not even so much the reason for the walk as the general state most of us are in when it takes place. Stepping into the bright light of a Sunday morning in party clothes with rumpled hair, slightly hungover, walking past lots of churches and churchgoers (because at my campus that is who you see on a Sunday morning) is just inherently kind of disgraceful. I've had to do it plenty of times when I'd even just stayed over at a friends dorm or something for the night. It definitely makes for good humor :)
